Many few places in the world have adequate
temperature, humidity and soil in order to make a
seed of tobacco become a full developed plant that
has the ability to become a good cigar. Inside
México there is only four places were this factors
come together for tobacco production, the best and
most recognized of them is San Andres Tuxtla in the
Veracruz State, this is where Tabacalera Lavin and
Carranza is situated. San Andres is famous because
of its tropical climate during all year, also
because its humidity is constant and its soils have
the perfect combination of minerals that gives the
tobacco plant its exquisite flavor.

We produce Cigars following the antique tradition in
Mexico, we first treat our seed more than 60 days
before its planted in our soil, our plants are
checked up more than 200 times by our cultivators
during the growing process. Every Plant block is
covered inside a special white permeable plastic
fabric and an electro-ultrasonic system that
although the crop to remain between 80%RH – 90RH of
humidity at all times, this is what gives our cigar
its unique flavor, that’s because usually in the
zones where the tobacco plant is cultivated, the
Humidity drops considerably when is windy and over
night, this affects the plants making them less oily
and much dryer. Our Patented GHCS (Global Humidity
Control System), allows the plants to grow in
controlled conditions like temperature and exact
humidity, this is what gives this Mexican cigar it
characteristically soft and creamy flavor.
When the plant is ready, the recollection of
tobacco leaves are started, one by one all the
tobacco leaves are retired from the main plant, then
they are taken to the “casa del tabaco”, this is a
farm where they will be fermented and were the humidity
is also controlled. Our “casa del tabaco” is
completely different from the common ones, this is
constructed with Natural Spanish Cedar Wood (the
crust of the tree has not been cutted off) this
allows the leaves to acquire a special wooden flavor
when they are laid on the “casa del tabaco”.
 |
After the fermentation is over, the “zafado” and
“amarre” takes place inside a special part of the
“casa del tabaco”, then a specialist select the best
leaves an the others are discarded, this leaves are
then put over a wooden “burro” this is similar to a
wooden hook that hold the leaves from the top, again
this is not a common “burro” the ones that we use
are made of “aromatic Cedar” this is similar to
common Cedar and Spanish Cedar, but this one has a
unique aroma. All the selected leaves are laid
between 6 to 8 months depending each one. After this
process is taken, another specialist selects only
the best ones, the others are sold to manufactures
here in Mexico. The good ones are taken to the
“gallera” this is a place with controlled conditions
where the tobacco is selected for the cover, tripa
and other components of the Cigar, also in here the
“Torcedor” or cigar-maker makes the preliminary part
of the Cigar, after this part its cutted off they
take it to the press room, this is a device made off
Spanish cedar , this is also different from normal
non wooden presses. This will press the cigars over
a period of time to give them the shape we all know.
 |
Finally they are retrieved from the press and then
they are brought back with another “torcerdor” this
last one puts the cover, cuts the cigar and sticks
the ring. When the cigar is ready is taken to the
maturation cave, where the most important part of
the process takes place.
